Matthew Shirey's Profile

About

Growing up in western Pennsylvania I spent a great deal of time running the woods and reading about Frontier America. In 1999 my interest in traditional lifeways led me to the art of Blacksmithing. Since then I have pursued every facet of my craft except horseshoeing. I now teach smithing and woodworking at an alternative high school and forge blades, axes, and woodworking tools when I'm at the forge. I also love to work with wood and am currently studying the art of making banjos.
