Meg Madden's Profile

About

Hi, my name is Meg Madden. I work from my home studio in the beautiful state of Vermont. I live with my sweet little girl and a crazy spotted cat named Tiger Lily.

I am an outdoor enthusiast, spending as much free time as possible biking and hiking in my gorgeous surroundings. As a "foodie", summer evenings find me tending my organic gardens, cooking up delicious home grown and local food, and topping it all off with a walk to the nearby ice cream stand.

Even when my hands are inactive, my mind is creating. Each art project, new garden, meal, thank you note, package to a customer, is an opportunity to make something ordinary beautiful & memorable. Everything can be art. It's all in the details.

I have never met a medium or material I didn't like. Over the years I have amassed…

Over the years I have amassed an extensive collection of art supplies: colored pencils, paints, pastels, printmaking materials, handmade papers, metal, feathers, interesting fibers and beads.

I am a lifelong artist. As the "artsy" kid, my parents nurtured my love of all things creative, always providing an endless supply of paper, crayons, markers and paints. From a young age, no matter the outlet, the thread of consistency throughout my artistic career has been my passionate love of color.

After attending art school I became a professional florist. For over a decade I "painted" with flowers. As the sole proprietor of an organic cut flower farm for 10 years, I specialized in rare and unusual blooms, grasses, pods & berries featuring interesting textures and intense colors.

In 2006 I began making jewelry professionally to offset Vermont's short growing season. When I was a child there was a make-your-own jewelry area in the back of one of the local shops. I can still picture the divided wooden print makers trays brimming with beads and the big rolls of waxed cotton cord hanging from dowels on the wall. That was where I made my first jewelry creations.
