About me
Growing up in Japan, Silk was the symbol of elegance, refinement, special occasions and tradition. My family is from Kyoto where the women wear different kimonos according to seasons and occasions. As a child, I was mesmerized by the beauty, elegance and feminine beauty of these traditional garments.

I was trained from the very young age in both Western and Eastern painting. After graduating from Parsons School of Design. I worked as a graphic designer/ art directer in fashion and publishing field in NYC. When I had babies, I became a full time mother.

Eventually our boys no longer needed my physical attentions 24/7, I began to paint again. My journey ultimately led me back to traditional Japanese silk painting, and the luxurious silk that inspired me as a child. As an artist, I interpret Hawaii's brilliant colors and vigorous nature through the lens of my Japanese culture.

When I decided to reach out globally, Etsy was the perfect place to start. I feel grateful that people appreciate lovingly handmade items.I think Etsy is a great way to connect with other women while building one's brand.

The process of Silk painting
Silk painting is meticulous, unforgiving, and involved. There are many stages, starting with pre-washing. Then the silk is stretched on a frame with tiny-clawed hooks. The silk is primed and prepared in order to receive specially formulated French dyes. The dyes will become molecularly bonded to the silk once steamed. The steaming process requires extensive preparations, calculations and the huge silk steamer. After steaming, assuming there are no mishaps, the silk is again washed at least twice. The result is unique, incredibly beautiful, heirloom quality work of art.
