I am a handweaver, currently pushing my inkle loom to show me all that it can do.
I love the feel of yarn as it slips through my fingers. I love to hear the shoosh of the shuttle as it slides through the shed and the thump of the beater when it makes contact with the web.
I love watching a new piece of textile grow pic by pic on the loom. I am creating a new fabric, never before made, never to be duplicated.
I feel connected to weavers throughout time and space, throwing shuttles and creating web. Show me a 3000 year old shawl from Peru and I get goosebumps. Show me a 1000 year old piece of rag-weaving from Arizona and I grin with delight. Show me a treadling error in a 150 year old coverlet, and I commiserate with the weaver whose baby is crying.
