My name is Michelle Loftis and I have been sculpting for more than 36 years. I began creating reproductions of my original stoneware sculptures in 1984. About 5 years ago I destroyed the molds for all my reproductions. I'm now focusing on creating one of a kind(OOAK) raku sculpture.
I LOVE to take a piece of clay and pound, squeeze, stretch, and smooth it until I can see whatever creature I am making start to come to life. Then the raku firing is sort of the icing on the cake, it gives each sculpture such a unique energy and appearance, and when a piece comes out really well it's such a feeling of accomplishment to have used all of the elements of nature, earth, air, fire and water to create a beautiful work of art. I am so lucky to get to do what I do!!

My son Dan is a sculptor also and works in the studio with me on a daily basis. His work goes in the opposite direction from mine. While mine is light-hearted, his is dark. He recently opened his Etsy shop, if you'd like to see his work you can find it at
