The idea of soap came about 4 yrs. ago when I ran into this great natural recipe book at a garage sale that included a soap recipe, it looked daunting. After all, the ash wood chemical used to make soap called lye is very caustic and dangerous.(read on for details) Then five years later a friend who unknowingly taught me much about living healthy really loved the book and suggested we take on the challenge. Well four girls later and a week of time with preparation and the actual process, we had our soap. We were proud of our bars and had so much fun getting together to do this. We did laugh at a couple of the recipes that turned out less then par, but overall we were eager to use our soap that cured for a couple of weeks.

I was hooked, I read books, looked online and researched soap. I could not go back to unnatural product, why would I? when I had homemade soap that felt more luxurious and I knew what was in it. So I converted. It dates back to bible times when the people of the land were giving animal sacrifices to God. They would bring the animal high up on a mountain and as the animal fat would burn away it would run down to the camps at the foothills where the campfire would be then the animal fat would mix with camp ashes and bubbles appeared. It was recognized that the result was cleaning.
Hence the needed component is the ashwood which is called “lye” combined with oils and fats the chemical reaction is called saponification with the result of soap. I like to think that God knew this figurative cleansing of sins with the animal sacrifices would serve a double purpose in the physical cleansing of humans. How brilliant!

This experience enhanced what I already knew the "grandma tips" my mom instilled in us 5 girls growing up. We always used vit. E gel tabs for any thing, from shiny hair to minor cuts. We had plants such as aloe vera growing and learned to use it in most things for our bath and body products were mostly natural including our eating naturally good stuff, I'm thankful for my mom and my 4 older sisters for their tips. And now with a a son who has eczema I'm able to treat him as mom would. Makes every soap made with love!
I have been able to try new recipes and the new technique “hot process” method which has been a success. In this new process the soap saponifies quicker as suppose to weeks, because the essential oils are added after the chemical reaction the essential oil properties are not lost.
With much research on oils I am confident that your next bar will be just the way you want it.
