Soledad Proaño's Profile
I was very interested in crafts from an early age. At home, my mom had Guatemalan weavings hanging on the walls, and my first personal approach to it was when she took a weaving class, and came home with a loom. I found it very intriguing!
We then moved to Chile (we were in Costa Rica before), and there I grew very close to Andean and Mapuche textiles and graphics. I learned several craft skills, and travel around the country, which made me very respectful of makers and their traditions.
Living now in the US, transplanted from my home country, I find life is full of contradictions: my roots and my current life, comfort and uncertainty, raw materials, modern lines, neutral, colorful, hardness, softness, quiet landscapes and city madness.... I even studied Engineering before giving it up to my love for making…
