About

My love of "pretty rocks" began in childhood on a ranch in West Texas. My logo incorporates my favorite stone: Finnish Spectrolite, placed in the shape of a Texas prickly-pear cactus.

I am a retired mathematician and analyst who spent most of my career in and around the Pentagon. Now I'm enjoying life in a beautiful state, doing all the things I've wanted to do and didn't have time--like sewing, stained glass, and jewelry-making. The latter started out by just making pieces for myself and for gifts, but my daughter persuaded me to start selling some. This hobby has grown into a small but growing business. Although our closest city is the State Capital, Charleston, we actually live in a rural area 30 miles away, on 160 forested and hilly acres, in a renovated 1890 Victorian home. Work in my studio is often interrupted by bird- and wildlife watching. We have a wide variety of both, and the colorful birds often serve as inspirations for my jewelry.

I also have an Etsy buyer account: ID is dormery.
