Stephanie's Profile

About

My name is Stephanie and I'm on my 25th year of life. I've always felt I was plucked out of time from the early 20th century and landed here in a world full of robot computers and cars that go way too fast. I think this love affair with the past has a big influence on my inspirations. I love antique and vintage inspired items and to me, the time period I belong to is best represented by a curling moustache. I've also studied the German language my entire life, due to my Austrian heritage and my mother's obsession with a German rock band, the Scorpions. So how to combine the essence of who I am in an Etsy shop? The German word for Moustache is Schnurrbart, which literally translates to String Beard.

String Beard Craftery began recently, at the end of 2011. I had just moved, and was sleeping on the floor of a big, empty apartment. I plugged my TV into the general cable on the wall, and started watching public access. I came across a crochet and knitting show and memories came flooding back to me from my childhood of creating cool crafts. That inspired me to run to the store the next day and buy books and instructions to help me relearn how to make some wonderful stuff. Since then, I've taught every little kid I know how to crochet, and I love making cool stuff to inspire them to continue being crafty. Hopefully one day String Beard Craftery will be a family affair, housing the creations of all of my wonderful family members that I've shared this craft with.
