So, I went to university to study computer science -I learned to program in Pascal and Fortran (does anybody use those anymore??) and I studied Discrete Math in a magical bubble of brainy-ness.

But before my first year was out that bubble burst. I was distracted by interesting goings on in the the art department (life drawing classes, Piers Anthony, hallway couches and the wearing of black.) I disappeared into the Ceramics Lab. Before long I was the lab technician mixing clay in a cloud of dust and firing kilns late into the night. I developed skills necessary to scavenge leftovers from the staff lounge across the hall for sustenance and didn't leave the art department for four years... until I got a free pass to the real world -a piece of paper that said BFA on it…

After university, I got a job at a small factory that made kitchen gadgets out of clay. I planned to keep at my clay work on the side but my day job quit me when the company sank under the weight of large orders from Costco. (See... big box stores are good for something...)

So, I took a Start Your Own Small Business course while on Unemployment and have never been unemployed or bossed around (at least at work) again.

Since my day job quit me 17 years ago, I have worked with clay as a self-employed potter and pottery teacher.

Now, I can welcome you to my online pottery store -an extension of the real world StudioÉLAN in Fenelon Falls, Ontario, Canada -I'm really glad you stopped by.

I enjoy making ceramics that are inspired by nature and by the purpose they have. I make sculptures inspired by pollen and seed pods, aliens and imaginary creatures. I make functional pottery with the end user in mind -is the piece comfortable, durable, functional and fun?

I am fussy about details and have put a lot of practice time into my pottery. This shows in the quality of my work.

The best thing I ever heard a customer say was "I have to have that -I don't NEED it, but I can't live without it!" I hope you find something here that you feel that way about!

Blessings,
