I work outside in a studio overlooking the sea, where wildlife, birds, the air, water, light, earth ... all entice me to participate in the celebration of each day. To work in clay is a true gift. I also share the joy of making ceramics with children in the schools.

I work outside in a studio overlooking the sea, where wildlife, birds, the air, water, light, earth ... all entice me to participate in the celebration of each day. To work in clay is a true gift. I also share the joy of making ceramics with children in the schools.

I make one-of-a-kind vessels, tile murals, jewelry and wall designs. White stoneware and porcelain create the bright pallet I love. Each piece is hand-built, carved and/or glazed in a painterly approach, then fired to Cone 6. Some are cast, using simple molds of my own creation, then individually carved (such as watershed mural tiles shown - native plants, streamside, fish.)

My pieces are like seeds
I’d like to send
from my garden
to your own:
to help you “rest from the world,”
to catch a glimpse-
or strong reminder-
of Nature’s gifts..

It's about delight!

I aim for balanced tension between the rugged and refined, sometimes incorporating paper into porcelain to make translucent paper-thin sheets with torn edges. Fluid, colorful glazes interact in often unpredictable ways. I delight in the unexpected element that’s “a given” in this approach. It also means there's a lot of loss- especially porcelain work.

Every firing is a surprise, and a bit of prayer- an icon of the heart.
Designs that celebrate the wild serenity of the natural world, I invite you to remember...the beauty of this Earth.
