About

The original term for the fabric rounds used to create the items in Sursy Shop was "Suffolk puff." Dating back to the early 1600s, these puffs were created from old clothes and rags to add longevity to tired bits of fabric. They could then be sewn together to form rugs or quilts. The more modern term for the fabric round is "yo yo." I have not been able to determine where this term originated, but it is speculated that it was coined in America. Yo Yos are essentially circles of fabric gathered in a pleating fashion to form a "puff". Today they can be found in other fun shapes like squares, ovals, hearts and more. The most well known use of yo yos is in quilt making, however, in recent years, their use has spread to include clothing, home decor, and scrapbooking. Many beautiful quilts made with these little gems can be found in museums around the world.

All yo yos used in items created for Sursy Shop are hand cut and sewn by myself, Robin Purdy. I strive to create unique and fun "sursies" using this wonderful 400-yr old technique. For those of you who don't know what a sursy is: "sursy" is a southern term for an unexpected gift or token of affection. Thank you for stopping by Sursy Shop!

News and Updates:

I have had quite a few requests for a larger size doily, so I am adding a 12" doily to my inventory. Thanks for all of the wonderful feedback! I hope you enjoy these new additions to my shop.

If you'd like a custom size or don't see a particular theme posted, please convo me. I have a large selection of fabrics in stock and will be happy to customize something for you. :) Please keep in mind that custom orders may take a little extra time, but the final product will include lots of extra love and care too. :)

Be sure to check out ABC's SCANDAL. Sursy Shop's Americana Yo Yo Bear was a prop in the President's nursery. He was first seen in the season 2 episode (#204), "Beltway Unbuckled." Season 2 shows him again in the baby's crib on the episode (#212), "Truth or Consequences." How cool is that!

For those of you who have seen woodturned products (pen/pencil sets, bird houses, eggs, etc...) on my table at local art and craft shows, here is where you can find those listings on Etsy: www.etsy.com/shop/eclecticwolf. Eclectic Wolf is also restoring/refurbishing old smoking pipes...check out some of his latest finds.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, just send me a convo.

Thank you! Robin
