About

We are a mother and daughter team who are fortunate to share a love for jewelry creation. We began by making pieces for ourselves and for gifts. People kept telling us we should sell some, and then we were invited to join an artists' co-op gallery. We love making new pieces and we get a huge charge out of seeing people enjoy them. We've been doing it for about four years now, taking classes and studying books and youtube videos, adding skills as we go. Of course, we have a ridiculous stash of beads and supplies and yet we are still tempted by every bead store we pass.

We decided to change the name of the shop after the word persnickety kept coming up in conversation.

Our jewelry is persnickety because of the attention to detail we give to it during the design and creation process, but it's also a little persnickety because you, the buyer and wearer, must give it a little extra care. Handmade jewelry isn't made to be dropped into the bottom of your purse or dumped in a jewelry box in a jumble with other pieces. Wirework can be bent out of shape, and woven beadwork can get caught on other jewelry. We recommend keeping each piece separated by using drawstring bags, hooks, or compartments in your jewelry box.

A word about custom pieces: after much thought, we've decided not to offer this service. When we have tried to match a customer's request, what she sees in her mind is never quite what we're able to produce. It's even hard to make a piece similar to what you see in our shop - say in a different color or size - because we may not be able to get the same materials.

Thanks so much for visiting Persnickety By Design!
