Santas are done with non-traditional colors, or, to be more accurate, non-commercial. I love using subtle colors and subdued tones, with occasional jewel tones or the rare pastel shades. It takes me from 10 to 40 hours to complete a single gourd, and that does not include prep time or research.
Santa collectors will find a treasure trove of the unusual, with varied themes or just a jumble of presents, and Santas are adorned with everything from bells, stars and carved staffs to whimsical, crooked trees. Many of the Santas smoke magical fairie pipes that leave glittering magic in the air. The “smoke” holds the smells of Christmas; spices and pine trees, cookies and baking, and so on. More often than not, they wear slippers or mukluks instead of boots.
Wildlife is an occasional subject, and once in awhile a mountain man or two.
