Tara Hickey's Profile

About

I am a versatile artist and sometimes jump from interest to interest. I don't like to limit myself when it comes to expressing my creativity. I have learned, however, that being a jack of all trades, so to speak, of the creative world may limit your knowledge. Instead, maybe it is more important to focus on one or even two or three specialties.

I am not sure I have specialties but I am trying. You see, at one time I did great digital art and was a Photoshop guru (almost). From there, I began to learn more about acrylic painting and experimented. While trying to specialize myself in acrylic painting, I was taking classes to learn Interactive Media and Web Design. The classes outweighed the painting because, I'll admit, I loved the painting but it didn't help pay the bills.

For the last two years, my classes have stopped. Well, I stopped my classes because I could no longer afford time and money for them. I drive a school bus by day and I have a husband and two boys, one of which has special needs.

After stopping classes, I wanted to do something creative and I didn't want to paint. I taught myself how to crochet again (I taught myself years ago). I also had some instruction on how to do beadwork by a friend of mine. From there, I've been experimenting and practicing crochet and beadwork since.

Not to mention, I sew as well. I am not trying to specialize in sewing, quilting or embroidery. However, I do make sewn items here and there. I also became interested in making cigar box purses, so you may see them here and there as well.

In conclusion, (I am laughing inside at myself) I specialize in crochet and beadwork at this time. I promise I will try hard to focus mainly on those two creative outlets. I don't really want to be a Jack of All Trades, Master of None.
