Gemstar Burgoyne's Profile

About

Bristol Based Designer, Seamstress, Textile Artist, Theatre/TV Costumier and Mother of two with a passion for all things textile based and an overwhelming awe for our beautiful planet.

As well as running my Tatty Gem's business I am also a qualified teacher and am co-founder of The Fancy Tat Collective, a group of eco-conscious textile artists running upcycling and eco-textile workshops within the community, at festivals and privately.

I love music and sing in a lovely little 10 strong choir. I love dancing and if I'm at a festival or party I'm usually the last one to stop moving. I love sunshine, long gruelling walks and climbs as well as short wanders. I love sitting round a fire in a field of an evening making music with lovely friends, doing crosswords in my van with the kids all tucked up and fast asleep and I love waking up to the sound of the van door…

I'm passionate about our planet and living lightly. One of the reasons I started my business was so I could ensure my life was not adding to the problems of an unsustainable planet.
I work from my lovely open studio in Stokes Croft, Bristol and am proud to be an active tenant of Coexist. In my creations I use primarily reclaimed, recycled and Eco materials and 'Oeko-Tex standard 100' Certified threads. Each raw material is scrutinised, planned and utilised to create as little waste as possible. Off-cuts are used in other creations and when eventually my scraps can get no smaller, they are used for stuffing or recycled.

***I am a member of the Ethical Fashion Forum and am part of the Fellowship 500 scheme, a collective of 500 pioneering innovators in fashion and sustainability working to take the movement to the next level.***
