About

The Bower Studio is the collaborative effort of myself, Vincent Frano, and my partner, Isa Wang. Isa graduated from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) in Boston. He helped to fully bring The Bower Studio into being and is the creator of some of our most popular soaps, including our robin egg and amethyst crystal designs.

I completed an Illustration Certificate Program at SMFA and recently finished my first year as an herbal apprentice at The CommonWealth Center for Herbal Medicine in Brookline, MA. Combining my passion for herbalism, Isa’s interest in design, and both of our artistic backgrounds, we strive to create unique, attractive, and utilitarian items.

We decided to name our crafting endeavor after the bower bird, an Australian bird known for its beautiful nests decorated with colorful found objects such as feathers, shells, and berries. Our work is greatly inspired by nature and cabinets of curiosities. Our business began in 2011 with molded curiosity soaps and has since grown to include herbal soaps, salves, and illustrated gifts. We wanted to broaden the often narrow skin care demographic by making products for all ages and genders while offering natural alternatives to commercial products.

Isa and I stand by our handmade aesthetic. We try to be as handmade as possible, from our products to our packaging. I illustrate our product logos, we both design the packaging, and Isa even creates some of our soap molds. Some of our packaging is handmade too, like our salve labels, which we varnish and glue ourselves. By doing these extra details by hand, it gives our products something special with a little bit of an old fashioned appeal.

We have also been excited about The Bee Project, which was started in the Fall of 2013. By offering cards and prints illustrated with bees we have been able to donate the profits to the Pollinator Partnership towards their Honey Bee Health Research Project. This has been our way to give back to the environment and raise awareness about Colony Collapse Disorder and the many issues honey bees face today. It has been a truly rewarding experience, especially hearing from fellow bee lovers.

As The Bower Studio continues to evolve, Isa and I are always exploring new product ideas and designs. We hope that you will enjoy our work and follow us as we grow.
