About

Hello all :) Welcome to my little corner of the Etsyian universe. I'm so glad you found me among all these amazing artists!

I'm a crafty, freethinking, homeschooling mama of two, s-l-o-w-l-y making my way toward an English degree.

My creating process is my personal zen. Every fold, every knot pulls me deeper into the peaceful 'still' that is always waiting. I am grateful to share this peace with you...

Driven by my desire to tread lightly, I use only responsibly cultivated/derived hemp and almost all of the paper I create with is repurposed/recycled.

~~ about the stuff I make ~~

:: macrame :: I absolutely enjoy making knots, and knotting with good ol' earth-friendly hemp is my favorite. Waxed hemp and fine hemp yarns (which I most often use) are *not itchy* and they produce the nicest results, as they allow for tighter, more defined knots than regular hemp. This reborn art is peaceful and quieting, providing a constant for my often vexed inner-world. Hopefully you'll feel the freedom and serenity in each piece, too. :)

*care: when you receive your groovy hemp goods, it will feel slightly stiff. Some like to wet the hemp in order to soften it, but it's unnecessary. In fact, continuous wetting will "blur" the knots and dull the color. Hemp pieces will soften beautifully on their own over time, and it won't take long till it's just like your favorite t-shirt. :) If it does get wet, though, no worries ... just lay it flat to dry naturally.

:: origami :: My other love is paper, especially recycled/upcycled ... this is where I find the most beauty. From old magazines and disassembled books with no better fate, to used maps and never-to-be-used instruction manuals ... I am perpetually fascinated by the unexpected patterns arising from the folds. The organic feel created with each piece is very grounding and soothing.

:: a note about paper jewelry :: An extra touch of love: All paper jewelry gets 3 hand-brushed coats of a clear, water-based sealant with a satin finish. This makes each piece very durable and relatively water-resistant. I find this method to yield nicer results than spray sealants, which tend to make the paper look plastic-y and somewhat transparent. While coating by hand can be rather time consuming, it preserves the paper's warm essence (while adding just a bit of sheen) and provides a more thorough, even layer of protection. It feels to be a more loving way to sustain the life of paper jewelry.

*care: keeping your origami jewelry beautiful is easy ... simply keep in mind that while each piece is durable and water resistant, it is still made of paper. Pieces are good for a quick dash (or even lumbering stroll) through the rain, but please no bathing, swimming, sleeping or pillow fighting while wearing :)
