Hello and welcome to The Fox in the Attic!

My name is Michelle, and I love sewing, drawing, painting, baking and cooking. I was born in a small town in South Africa called Parys. Inspired by my mother - who had her own handmade craft business and still paints, creates and restores all manner of things - I have always been creative for as long as I can remember. After three years studying graphic design, I moved into painting and illustration, and after travelling across Canada, Australia and Europe eventually decided to settle in London.

Having lived in a small house close to the River Thames with my husband-to-be and our ginger cat Floyd, enjoying cooking and tending to the garden, I decided on a whim to try my hand at sewing.

Throwing myself in at the deep end, I bought a sewing machine, taught myself embroidery, made my first soft animal toy (a bunny) and before I knew it The Fox In The Attic was up and running! A world of possibilities swiftly opened itself up to me, and my ever-growing range of hand-made items began to include cats, foxes, dogs, pin-cushions, napkins, owls and even clouds! My only limit is my imagination - if I can dream it up I can make it. I take inspiration from a huge range of people, places and things: from travel (Sicily, Paris, Amsterdam, Cornwall) to Art (Frida Kahlo, Vincent Van Gogh, Beatrix Potter) to world history (medieval tapestries/illustrated manuscripts), and the Arts & Crafts movements spear-headed by William Morris. My more esoteric tastes include obscure Victorian botanical illustrations, old postcards, visiting museums and stately homes, antique jewellery (often found in flea-markets around the world) - and I'm also a total sucker for period-films (anything by Jane Austen and I'm there!).

All my items are handmade and hand embroidered. Foremost in the range of products are handmade animals. Each individual animal is lovingly sewn and embroidered by hand, and made to its own unique hand-drawn template. The animals that are currently available are bunnies, cats, owls, foxes, chickens and dogs, but the range is always expanding, so do check in again!

If you would like anything special or bespoke, like a toy with a baby name, please send me a message, I would be happy to help. Thank you for visiting!
