About

I am so fortunate that my life's journey has brought me to a beautiful mountain town of Colorado, where we built our log home on 13 acres in the middle of a pine forest. I am blessed to be surrounded by the magic of nature every day. The snow-capped Mountains, fall colors of quaking Aspen, the smell of Pine, the soaring Eagle, the bugling Elk, the newborn Fawn, the hovering Hawk, the caw of Raven, the ruins of ancient Puebloan peoples that surround me and the Mysteries of the Universe are the sources of my inspiration. My creations are all hand-crafted as I listen to the whisperings of my Muse. They come from a deeper place ~ my hands create whatever comes.

In keeping with Etsy rules for Charity Shops I am obligated to inform buyers who my beneficiaries are. In the past I've donated to a variety of children's charities ~ ones that move me at that point in time. However, because of new rules, I have to now be more specific. The following organizations gladly accept donations from my proceeds:

www.donorschoose.org is a 501(c)3 that supports public school teachers all over the country who need items to inspire their students. I am a former teacher and I am especially drawn to high-risk or special needs students usually in high poverty areas.

Southwest Safehouse, Durango, CO (www.voacolorado.org/gethelp-southernco-southwestsafehouse) - serves women and children survivors of domestic violence and other violent crimes. Provides over 5,000 nights of safe shelter to over 200 women and children each year. The Southwest Safehouse provides a safe refuge for women and children who have no safe home, and provides the tools and support needed for women and children to recover from trauma and start a new life.

www.friendsofpineridgereservation.org - Pine Ridge Reservation, located in South Dakota, is home to the Oglala Sioux Tribe. The reservation is large, and its needs immense, commensurate with grinding poverty. This organization focuses on specific needs of the many schools and social service organizations such as shelters, children's organizations, and clinics physically located on the reservation.

www.booksforafrica.org - "Books For Africa is a simple idea, but its impact is transformative. For us, literacy is quite simply the bridge from misery to hope.” (Kofi Annan, former U.N. Secretary-General). A simple name for an organization with a simple mission. This organization collects, sorts, ships, and distributes books to students of all ages in Africa. Their goal: to end the book famine in Africa.

Soles 4 Souls (www.giveshoes.org) is a global not-for-profit institution dedicated to fighting the devastating impact and perpetuation of poverty through the distribution of shoes and clothing to men, women and especially children. Soles4Souls was given birth out of responding to natural disasters both domestically and internationally. Their commitment to disaster relief continues to be a primary focus of our organization. While the U.S. was fortunate to not have a catastrophic disaster the magnitude of Katrina in 2007, our country still had an abundance of crisis across our nation. From the wildfires in Southern California, floods in the Mid-West, and the tornados in the Southeast, Soles4Souls were able to respond quickly and efficiently with needed footwear. One of the focuses in their global efforts centers on orphanages throughout Central and South America, including Haiti, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Guatemala, and Tanzania, in Africa. These abandoned and orphaned children cherish a pair of shoes more than something to eat or even a new toy. In many countries, a pair of shoes is part of the required school uniform in order to attend school and receive a necessary education, the basis for escaping the grasp of poverty.

Los Cabos Children's Foundation (loscaboschildren.org) was founded in 2002 by Tom Walsh of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It's mission is to provide medical, educational and humanitarian assistance to the children, their families and supportive organizations of the Los Cabos, Mexico area. Their vision is to create a world-class model for what caring, committed people can do, changing the world "one child at a time."

When not making cards, I make blankets for Project Linus and will occasionally use proceeds from my sales for blanket-making supplies. As the co-founder of our local chapter, it is near and dear to my heart. Project Linus (www.projectlinus.org) is a 501(c)3 that donates handmade blankets to children who are traumatized or seriously ill. Our chapter has donated over 7,000 blankets to children in need or in crisis since its inception in 2001.
