Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, I needed a hobby. I went to the local ceramic shop, picked up a paint brush, a piece of ceramic and started painting. And I have never looked back.

Over the years I have owned a ceramic studio, moved it once, then sold it after 11 years to work at home. I brought home a few molds, bought a couple small kilns and got down to business. I opened my website, Korff Ceramic Originals, in 1999, and have enjoyed working and painting at home ever since. Much to the delight (or chagrin) of my husband, kids, dogs and cat. Let's just say the business has almost taken over the house, and leave it at that : ) (read my about page : )

I find inspiration in simple things. Activities the kids participate in, places we go, the pets in our house....my goal is to paint items that people find useful and fun. Things that will make people smile and still serve a purpose. I am not a nick nacky person, and my shop reflects that. (not that there is anything wrong with nick nacks. I just remember having to dust them when I was a child and now I try not to collect them myself.)

My piggy banks are made from "scratch." I have the plaster molds in my basement and use liquid clay to create the greenware. Each piggy bank is carefully cleaned, then fired in one of the kilns in my garage. It is then painted to order (in my kitchen) and fired again. You can even order them with NO HOLE in the bottom. Just don't tell me you want to break it open when it's full : )

All my designs use non-toxic, lead-free, ceramic glazes that are fired onto the ceramic bisque. This makes my designs permanent and part of the piggy bank or pie plate. Each piece is one of a kind, and made to order just for you.

Are you looking for a Custom Design? I'm sorry, but I no longer paint special orders. I just don't have enough time in the day to do them justice...but I can change colors or color combinations on my current designs.

Please read my policies http://www.etsy.com/shop/ThePigPen/policy for details re. shipping, payments and more....

Thanks for stopping by The Pig Pen. Be sure to come again soon and see what's new!
