About

I started The Pooch Snackery because of my passion for baking and love of animals. A few years back I had the idea to start my own dog treat business and never went through with it. I decided to finally finish my plans in honor of my beloved dog, Buddy an Alaskan Malamute, who we had to put down last year due to an unfortunate reaction to a vaccine. Although, despite Buddy's, death it did not stop us from rescuing more dogs.

Today we currently have 3 dogs and 2 cats.

Rayna was adopted when she was a puppy. The rescue that we got her from saved her and her sisters form a high kill shelter in North Carolina. They said that she is a Shephard Lab mix, but we are not sure about that since she is small. She is such a lover and always wants to be at your side.

She is also very spoiled and feels that she in entitled to everything. We rescued Rayna when we still had Buddy. We knew that he would like a playmate.

Shortly after Buddy passed, we looked into rescuing another Malamute. The house felt so empty and even though we had Rayna we still had so much love to give. We searched and searched and finally found Magic. Magic was senior Malamute who was at a rescue in Virginia. We knew that the chances of senior dogs getting adopted are very slim and after hearing his story we just knew we had to adopt him. Magic was once used as a stud dog for breeding. After his owners felt he was no longer needed for breeding they sold him. The family that bought him had other issues going on in their life and ended up locking him up in their basement and neglecting him. Luckily, they decided to contact the rescue before it was too late. When the rescue got him he weighed 110lbs which for him was very malnourished. Today he weighs in at 170 and he is not over weight one bit! He loves going out because he loves all of the attention, especially from the ladies! I'm so glad that we found him. He is such a sweetheart and I still can't understand why anyone wouldn't want him.

Last is the newest addition to our family, Lyla. She was another rescue from where we got Rayna. We got Lyla when she was a puppy as well. Lyla's mother was also saved from a high kill shelter while she was pregnant. She is a Border Collie Boxer mix and boy is she a handful! She loves to play hard with Rayna and also loves to antagonize Magic.

Snickers is one our cats. She tends to keep to herself. She was not a rescue, but she was a free kitten off of a Craigslist ad. She loves to tease the dogs and have them chase her around the house.

Tate (yes, named after a character in American Horror Story lol) was a stray kitten that we found outside. He is so sweet and loves to brush his face up against yours. He is not your typical kitten either, he drools just like a dog!

I believe if we had a bigger house we would rescue more.
