I spend roughly one third of the year in the wilderness leading groups of teenagers on 3 week backpacking and canoeing courses. Much of my inspiration for my art comes from traveling in wild places. I strive to make pieces that allow the wearer to be observant, by noticing and feeling textures, by considering how something was made and the environmental impact its existence represents, and by feeling how pieces interact with the body. A piece of jewelry does not only have to be an item of decoration, it can provide an experience. An experience that can provoke enriching thoughts, conversations, and practices. This aspect of creating art brings me joy.
