TheSisCrew's Profile

About

LooLoo and I are sisters {this etsy shop is a collective of two} and we thought the name 'The Sis Crew', or 'TheSis Crew', if you like, would suit us nicely. We also have a blog - visit: www.thesiscrew.com to check it out.

So, a little about us:

Lauren - {code name: LooLoo}
Looloo's a nickname she got when she was very small (cause she looked just like a Who, from Whoville - you know? Dr. Seuss!). Anyway, Loo, went to fashion design school, so she's pretty savvy at making patterns and dealing with technical construction issues. It seemed perfect to name her clothing collection 'LooLoo', and it kinda has a CoCo Chanel ring to it, don't ya think?

Marnie {code name: big sister}

My label is Artifact. I always wanted to be an archaeologist and have worked on several digs but I really liked being an artist more... the pieces I'm designing and making currently have elements of old, lost or forgotten treasures that I happily re-stlye to be enjoyed again. I studied interior design, but now, find myself dabbling in several different medias - namely: illustration, graphic design, clothing and jewellery re-design.

We both grew up making and creating art, learning to sew at a young age - taught by our Mom!

Us sisters both love using vintage ingredients in our work. I use a vintage 40's sewing machine for all the work that I do. We frequently are sourcing supplies and love finding unique materials to use in our collections. Often we find vintage items that we just can't bring ourselves to alter or re-style and offer these items for sale in a section of our shop called 'The Vintage Dept'.

We live with our brother in a pretty mountain town and are surrounded by trees, lakes, snow and friendly mountain folk. Our brother likes to eat lots of noodles and is going to film school presently, so only has time to make Mr.Noodles... we don't interfere as long as he does the dishes.

We also live with two terrific cats, one black anime-ish looking one and one that looks like a miniature linx. These kitties don't come to our studio - so our designs are all 'pet free'.

We love to drink coffee, and often stop at our local cafe en route to our studio. We also are pretty keen on making our special family sandwiches - 'tomato surprise' - a delicious and secret recipe we'll never reveal, until we write a cook book {which could happen next year I'm thinking}.

I have another etsy shop {poketto.etsy.com} and I'm involved with developing the etsy shop for The Factory Arts Collective in Nelson, BC, Canada {factorystudios.etsy.com}
