About

On August 12, my daughter Lucy (whom we affectionately call, Lovey) decided she had waited long enough and made her triumphant entrance in the world…two months premature!
As with any child who enters the world that early, our daughter’s first home was the NICU (neo-natal intensive care unit) at the local hospital. NICU’s can be scary places, but they can also be places of hope and love.
During this time we learned about kangaroo care, or skin-to-skin contact, and it’s benefits for mother (or father) and child. For me, this was a special time for my daughter and me, but I was uncomfortable being so exposed in such an open environment. I tried to keep the hospital gown from falling off, while at the same time keeping my tiny daughter wrapped in a blanket to keep her warm.

It wasn’t working.
My mom was staying with us and helping to care for our children ar home, and after a couple of visits to the hospital with me, she had an idea: The Love Bug! The design of the Love Bug allowed for Lovey and me to be wrapped up in the same soft, warm flannel blanket.
Nursing a new baby can be difficult enough, but as I found out nursing a baby that can barely stay awake – barely open it’s mouth to latch-was an even greater challenge. That’s why the Love Bug was also designed to allow for “easy access” to nurse freely, making it a much more precious time with my tender newborn.
My mom and I are passing on this special shirt to you with the hope that you will wear it and remember the special bond that exists between mother and child as you share in one of life’s tender mercies.
