I take after my grandmother, Mary Ella, who used scraps and old things to make useful things just because she had clever hands. She was a thrifty, old-fashioned Mennonite who never had much money, but made do with what she had on hand; we call it "upcycling" or "repurposing" now. We drank out of plastic yogurt cups at Grandma's house. My family keeps telling me how much I am like my grandmother.
I use found fabric - upcycling, thrift stores, other people's stashes. . . wherever I can find it, but not usually at a fabric store. I will tell interesting stories behind the materials or blog about it. I believe there is no such thing as ugly fabric, that any fabric can be redeemed if it's paired with the right thing.
