About

I take after my grandmother, Mary Ella, who used scraps and old things to make useful things just because she had clever hands. She was a thrifty, old-fashioned Mennonite who never had much money, but made do with what she had on hand; we call it "upcycling" or "repurposing" now. We drank out of plastic yogurt cups at Grandma's house. My family keeps telling me how much I am like my grandmother.

I use found fabric - upcycling, thrift stores, other people's stashes. . . wherever I can find it, but not usually at a fabric store. I will tell interesting stories behind the materials or blog about it. I believe there is no such thing as ugly fabric, that any fabric can be redeemed if it's paired with the right thing.

I'm currently sewing hanging hand towels, hotpads, little soap bags, and pencil rolls. In the past I have made ruffle scarves and fabric flowers. I also sell some vintage goodies that were too nice for the thrift store.
