About

Hi, my name is Deborah. Welcome to Tink’s Treasure.

I am a hippie at heart, and addicted to beads. Cooking is a passion, wine is a necessity and my waistline is the proof of my love for both. I’m a happy, deeply spiritual person, married to my soul mate and the proud Mama of one beautiful daughter and two grandsons.. My husband and I are both cat lovers and we live with 3 beautiful rescue kitties in New York.

After enjoying a long career as a professional mixologist – psychologist in a small neighborhood bar, retirement beckoned. It was time for me to spread my wings and focus on my artistic side. I always loved to make things. Creating things with my own two hands gives me an inner satisfaction, a feeling of contentment and peace.

One day I was browsing in a little shop and I spotted some beads, they felt wonderful in my hand and my heart fluttered and my brain was already thinking about how I wanted to use them to create something beautiful and unique. Ever since that day my urge to create became focused on these beautiful baubles and all the mesmerizing bits and pieces that I can combine in endless ways to make beautiful wearable art.

I am a self taught Beader, and believe me when I say that I shed many a tear while learning. Oh the knots, and learning to manage beading needles and beading lines, the unintentional skipping of one teeny bead, learning to finish a piece, learning stitches, tying proper knots, tapering, correcting mistakes, techniques for closing, these things were not easy for this girl. I never gave up, because I loved the beads, the process and the finished pieces so much. I gave away a lot of pieces of jewelry that weren’t perfect. I doubted that I would ever create anything that I could actually sell and when I was finally ready to do my first craft fair I was terrified that no one would like what I made, or buy it or that my work might fall apart on the buyer. However, this was far from what happened. I had so many sales that my husband and I came home stunned. So many people told me that my work is exquisite and that my prices were way to low, really??? Soon, I was doing lots of craft fairs and selling out often. My turning point in confidence was when I started to have repeat clients. Folks would say that they had hoped that I would be at this fair and that they came to the show looking for me, wow!

Beading is a form of meditation for me, it has taught me patience and as I create I often think of the person that will be wearing my work and lift that person in prayer for health and happiness. I’m confident in my ability to create beautiful treasures that are professionally made. Clients still comment regularly that my prices are to low, but I’m happy with my pricing. I try to base it on my cost of maintaining a tiny business and the cost of materials, not my hours invested in each treasure that I create. How can I charge exorbitant prices for something that I thoroughly enjoy doing? That feels wrong to me. My goal is for you and I to both be happy with our interaction. For myself, I feel wonderful, knowing that you liked my work and I have a bit of money to buy more beads and continue creating. For you, you will be wearing or giving something beautiful, unique and handmade in the USA. You have the satisfaction of knowing that you supported a small artist, a real person, working in my tiny home studio in New York.
