Peter Steiner's Profile

About

My passion for rocks, gemstones, fossils, and the wonders of prehistoric time stretches as far back into my life as I can remember. It may have been born on the day my parents took me to Arizona's Petrified Forest, or on the night of my first Perseid meteor shower. About

My passion for rocks, gemstones, fossils, and the wonders of prehistoric time stretches as far back into my life as I can remember. It may have been born on the day my parents took me to Arizona's Petrified Forest, or on the night of my first Perseid meteor shower. Maybe it was kindled on the day my Dad gave me the flint arrowhead he found on a Spring morning in 1937, when he and his favorite draught horse were plowing Grandpa's farm, in Williams County, Ohio.
Then I got my first rock tumbler...and one of Mom's friends gave me a mineral collection...and my "Uncle Mike" taught me to cut a turquoise cabochon. And there was no turning back.

Every time I lift a fresh slab from my saw, or split a new layer from the slate and shale seabeds of my home county, or carve away the dull surface of a Fire Agate to expose the flame and color hidden inside, I see a new work of art - far beyond my ability to create - traced by the hand of God. Sometimes that work is mine to finish. Other times, my job is to pass it along to the person who can do it justice.
That's why I've opened this shop.
