About

In 2007, my daughter Colleen and I sat in her living room, watching her three sons (then ages 5, 3, and 1) play. We were surrounded by cars, trucks, soccer balls, and building sets. It was hard to hear each other over the roar of the boys pretending to be racecar drivers circling the track at amazing speeds, firefighters heading to yet another emergency, and so on.

Over the tumult, I was telling Colleen about a ballerina costume I was making for one of my granddaughters. She sighed. There was no tulle in her life…

She needed tulle! Every female needs at least a little tulle!

That’s where we started. We decided to make washable, wearable, everyday tutus for girls, including girls who weren’t as girly as some. Colleen has always been creative and artistic, so she is designing the appliques for our TuTees. I have spent…

She needed tulle! Every female needs at least a little tulle!

That’s where we started. We decided to make washable, wearable, everyday tutus for girls, including girls who weren’t as girly as some. Colleen has always been creative and artistic, so she is designing the appliques for our TuTees. I have spent a lifetime sewing clothes and costumes, so I’m the seamstress.

Colleen’s friends, my daughter-in-law, and their little girls liked the appliques so much that we decided to make shirts with and without tutus. We've also designed superkid shirts for girls and boys, along with number shirts and many other variations. We add more designs almost every week.

Our appliqued shirts are 100 percent cotton, so we preshrunk them before we sewed on the designs. Our tees and tutus really are washable. Use cold water and put them in the dryer on gentle for 5-10 minutes That should get rid of any wrinkles in the tulle, too. Then hang them or lay them flat until they finish drying.
