Ryan Albachten's Profile

About

My name is Ryan Albachten and I live and work in the Pacific Northwest. Umbilicus Designs was born from my artistic desires as well as my need to create with my hands and my love of adornment. As a small child, I was interested in many forms of adornment. I have been making jewelry with different materials since my teens. Great inspiration came from my cousin who taught me some basics with wire and helped me discover my love of metals and introduced me to both a torch as well as the beauty of vintage and antique glass. My creative passions definitely run in the family as my father is also a metalworker and mobile artist. My creative passions definitely run in the family as my father is also a metalworker and mobile artist. After many years of collecting vintage and antique glass, semiprecious stones and beads, I finally picked up a torch and went to work. I find great satisfaction in the zen art of making handmade chain (lots of patience) as well as forging and raising metal from one form into another. I work with standard fabrication techniques as well as with PMC (precious metal clay). I primarily enjoy creating pieces from unusual material or inspirational sources, while keeping quality a top priority. I love getting to know my customers, when possible, and seeing the joy my work can bring to them, as it does for me.

Many of my pieces are one of a kind, due especially to the techniques used in my seed pod pieces and the use of limited vintage or unusual materials. Please contact me regarding custom work or specific questions, I'd love to hear from you!
