About

My name is Danielle E. Kertis. I paint mixed media pieces. Acrylic on canvas with original photography. I've been in love with painting for about 17 years. I didn't even know I had any talent. My husband and I got our first apartment together and couldn't afford any of the beautiful artwork I wanted. So, I gave painting a try. Turns out, it's my gift! Most of all I lOVE it!!! I have always incorporated photographs into my pieces. It gives my whimsical imagery a realistic tinge. And gives me a chance to look at life through my camera lens. I have only had the opportunity to take one small class at the Wallingford Community Arts Center, but the saying "practice makes perfect" absolutely holds true. I have only had the opportunity to take one small class at the Wallingford Community Arts Center, but the saying "practice makes perfect" absolutely holds true. The more I paint, the more wonderful my paintings become.

I am also the gushingly proud mother of the three coolest people I know...Violet, Vaughn and Olive. They are sweet, wild, smart, adorable and make my life utterly crazy. I couldn't be more thankful for anything else in the world. Their presence in my life has forced me to recount the beauty of childhood, the wonder it holds, and the amazing feeling of actually being free. Freedom from stress, pressure, and obligation. I praise God for this magnificent gift everyday.

I enjoy listening to music while I paint. Song lyrics are my biggest inspiration for my paintings. Words are amazing! Letters can paint more beautiful images than any acrylic and brush. Incredible! So, I listen and I read and then I hope that my canvas can illustrate the beauty of some of my favorite words. BUT, God is my biggest fan and supporter. He holds my brush and guides my strokes. He opens my eyes to beauties I may have neglected to stare at. He shows me His world as He sees it. Magnificent and perfect. Untouched as it was meant to be. He has helped me focus on the smallest details, as God has made even the smallest detail immensely ornate. His love for me has brought me to a day where I can say, over 250 of my paintings have been adopted. They live in a variety of places around the country, and one of my little beauties even resides in the Netherlands!

My hope is for people to lose themselves in my dreamland, and find a smile among my imagination.
