About

I'm an artist and designer from Finland with passion for decorative yet simple, natural forms. I have loved crafts since I was a child but it was my aunt who helped me to discover my material. In 2001 she suggested that we buy some wire and experiment with it. I really fell for the material and used my Grandma's kitchen as my makeshift workspace. My Grandma, aunt and I spent a week talking and sharing inspiration while I created my first chandeliers. It started to feel like I could think wire, speak wire and truly express and it was then I began to outwork the discoveries of life from my previous years.

In first months I did my work solely for me and my relatives. It didn't cross my mind to sell to others. I used to teach children at that time and I loved my work. My friends were the ones who arranged my first exhibitions. Three years later I was ready to jump from steady job…

Three years later I was ready to jump from steady job to the life of an artist, eschewing certainty, yet feeling I had made the right choice!

Over the years I have explored other materials for my work, like natural Finnish birch plywood.  I wish that everyone could experience walking in the Finnish birch tree forest in the early summer morning, or the nightless night by the lake surrounded by woods. Finns enjoy the pin-drop silence and serenity of the forest. It’s hard to explain that feeling but it lead to the inspiration for ”The Birch Crystal – Finnish glow”.

More recently I’ve started to explore the possibilities of silver, ceramics and birch tree branches; I see no limits. Being creative can find forms in different materials as well as in different forms of life.

I live in a beautiful old town called Porvoo which is by the sea, a little way along the coast from Helsinki, Finland. I spend a great deal of my time being amazed about the beautiful forms found in the nature.
Below is a link to a video made close to my home that describes the inspiration source for my arts and craft work.

I sell my arts and crafts in many shops in Finland and other countries but I love communicating and sharing with people from different cultures - this is my reason to be on Etsy.
