About

Clothing fascinates me. It speaks about an individual and a society. The choice of garment becomes a visual language proclaiming who we are and who we want to be. I was artistically trained as a painter but discovered fabric as my true medium while designing costumes for the theater. I find clothing design to be a deliberate study to evoke emotion, personality and relationships between characters or people. Whether designing for stage or life, I use the same artistic elements of color, form, line, shape and texture to provide existence to the ephemeral idea of self. The inner and unseen can be visible. Clothing takes on a separate identity beyond covering the body but undeniably reliant upon it.

My designs range from traditional historical garments to modern garments that are inspired by my research. I love to play with historical elements juxtaposed onto the everyday. Contemporary design offers me the freedom to meld items from my research and explore them without the constraints of historical accuracy. The garment is not simply a costume nor simply fashion but a wearable expression of identity.
