My journey began in 2007 with a love for travel, a passion for creativity, and a disappointing handbag purchase!

Let me start by answering a very common question....."How did you come up with the name Wallaby Bag Company?" I know, it's a bit quirky. It's no secret I LOVE everything Australia....the animals, wine, landscape, etc. I've even come up with a pretty convincing Australian accent!

During a trip to Walt Disney World in 2007, my daughter gave me a stuffed Wallaby from the Australia exhibit at Epcot. It was dark, and I thought it was a squirrel. I thanked my daughter for the cute "squirrel" and I put it in my bag to take home.

The bag I was carrying was a cross body bag I purchased from a local department store. I hated that bag. It was so cumbersome and the way it was designed made it difficult to get in and out of. Oddly enough, I thought about how lucky Wallabies and other marsupials are to have a built in pouch of their own. I started coming up with ideas of how I would make my own perfect "pouch" when I got home. Perhaps a little creative business venture? I had a sewing machine that sat in a box for 2 years because I forgot how to use one long ago. The creative process was going strong in my mind so I knew with a bit of determination, I would overcome the obstacle of not even remembering how to even thread a bobbin.

Upon our return home, while unpacking from our trip, I took the stuffed "squirrel" my daughter gave me out my bag, and low and behold.....it was a wallaby! Immediately I thought it would be a clever name for my bags.

I began sewing small wristlets and purses that I would give out as gifts. After dropping my iPhone and shattering the screen, I made a cute case to protect my new one. From there, I started making cases for other electronic devices such as eReaders, Laptops and eventually the iPad.

My family and I love the beach and taking short trips, so I frequently stitch up larger bags as well, to suit the occasion. After receiving many compliments on these larger bags, I decided to incorporate them into my shop as well.

Even though I am a one person creative force, I call myself and my venture "Team Wallaby". Here, there IS an "I" in Team. I am a perfectionist and a control freak. Some may say it's what makes a person their own worst enemy. I think it's what allows me to create and produce the high-quality bags I sell and to provide my customers with a great shopping experience.

It's been a great journey and I LOVE what I do. I am excited about the road ahead and where my creativity takes me.

So there you have it, how my story began and how The Wallaby Bag Company pays tribute to the fuzzy two-legged mammal with a cute little face and a built in pouch!

Happy Wandering,
Team Wallaby
