Wendy Miller's Profile
Family photographs have always been in my life starting with the 1890’s family albums we poured over as children. I had my first Brownie at 9, and moved up to my Nikon and digital cameras over the years. I loved studying the Fine Arts; history, photography, silk screen and etching. Working in the airline industry gave me the grand opportunity to photograph my travels.
Each painting incorporates photos which are hand cut and placed individually on the canvas; I do not use Photoshop methods. My ancestors' photos, as well as my own “speak” to me and suggest the playful, lively settings I paint with bold acrylic pigment. It is clear to me that I live at the right time, being able to scan in vintage photos, print them to size, hand tint as desired, and place them on canvas. This technology was not available when I was young, so has opened the world of painting to me which I never expected and makes me very thankful.
