About

The Art and Found is an independent knitwear and clothing brand that is hand made in Ithaca NY. My brand went from a sewing studio- to a brick and mortar store - and now it is a traveling shopping experience; vending at indie markets, street fairs, festivals, and pop-up events!

My passion is to create.
Simply that.
I am not a factory, or a large scale operation that outsources labor or material.
I draw inspiration from my little Finger Lakes town here; I purchase fabric and yarns from my favorite local fiber shops.

My effort to be creative in the designs is what sets my business apart!

I am also a mother and design with practicality, function, and affordability in mind. I want you to have something you can wear over and over again, and in a variety of ways. That is the type of shopper that I am so I design things that I would typically like!

My favorite thing to create are my artisan hats. I wanted to be a milliner when I was young. Once I started researching the equipment needed and costs involved, it seemed out of reach. It can also be very toxic! (The term "mad hatter" actually came from the fact that there are many toxic sprays used to stiffen and block traditional hats!) I was already an avid crocheter so I started experimenting and created a wide brimmed hat. I loved it! The hats could pack flat in a suitcase (something blocked hats can't do) and I got to be more creative with color and fibers!

Those hats were my first product ever, and the thing that launched my creative life ten years ago. Now I sew simple clothing designs, and crochet sweaters, and also have designed some accessories to go along on adventures! I hope you will check out my shop and purchase the item or items that really speak to you. I can promise you that you won't regret it!
