WhereTheMoonGoes' Profile

About

Where The Moon Goes is a mother and daughter collaboration. It was a business idea born of the desire to keep in touch with one another creatively since, unfortunately, we live at opposite ends of the country from one another. Mom in the Boston area and I in Portland.
When my mom was very ill a few years ago and bed bound much of the time she dug out an antique boy scout loom she had picked up from who knows where (her place is always filled with random rummage sale and antique store findings). Being the queen of craft that she is (and to keep herself occupied during those long days of illness), mom messed with that loom until she had taught herself how to weave, making a little bracelet of her own design and adding some deer-sking leather to the ends of the piece and a button style closure. When I saw what she was making I freaked, begged her to make more and to teach me!

Several more were to follow all with the same design concept that we still love and use today. They have become my favorite kind of jewelry; each one a highly unique piece of wearable art. And so here we are putting them out into the world. Hope you love them as much as we!

Skills background:
For many years my mom had her own business as a seamstress, able to sew together whatever people needed or wanted. However, her special interest was in designing and sewing period perfect doll dresses in collaboration with a local doll maker. Many were the honors she took home for her skill, artistry, and detail. She has a true passion and talent for working in the miniature. She now has a new Etsy shop, Dress Me Doll, where she's indulging in her first love; designing vintage fashion replicas for Barbie!

Genetics, time spent with my mom, various art classes, fair knowledge of art history, association with the working "art world", and many hours at my own drawing table have produced in me, I think, a good sense of design and craftsmanship. I enjoy creating only when I have the time it takes to do a superior job.

Thanks so much for visiting and feel free to contact us with any questions/requests in the meantime!
