James Beckwith's Profile

About

I have actively pursued woodworking for over 50 years with great experience in remodeling, cabinetry, custom furniture and crafts. My shop is filled with about every tool imaginable and provides to ability to make just about anything that someone comes up with as a desired completed project.

My favorite wood medium is red oak, however, wild cherry is quickly taking over that #1 spot. Cherry is a beautiful wood to work with, especially if you can get into the figured parts of the tree and secure a large enough piece to really make it stand out. I also spend a good amount of time with ash, walnut and a number of exotic woods including Purple Heart, Massaranduba, Padouk, Brazilian Cherry, Zebrawood, and Bubinga.

Over the past couple of years, I have really latched on to working with more unique woods including a variety of spalted woods. Spalted woods are becoming more and more difficult to find but feature a very special characteristic in the grain. Typically the woods I have been fortunate enough to find at local mills include spalted alder, hard maple and beech. Because of the limited quantities available IN try make the greatest use of the supply I can find. Recently I was at my annual harfdwood purchase expo and was pleasantly surprised when my agent pointed toward a pack of spalted maple. It was just a touch of what I have found at local mills and I think I disappointed him a bit when I didn't purchase the packs he had available..

I invite you to come and view my selection of my works here on Etsy.com. I can assure you that you will receive the highest quality merchandise available. I do have a policy of no returns but take pride in working with my clients to satisfy their concerns should they have difficulty with assemblies when required.
