I am a retired civil engineer located in beautiful central Massachusetts, whose working life was devoted to designing and building institutional buildings. During that time, my hobby was creating and building furniture for my family’s use. When the need for furniture was satisfied, I discovered wood turning and soon thereafter, the art of segmented wood turning.
Being someone who has loved to build things since a child with my first Erector set, the idea of creating wood pieces by segmenting and laminating pieces of wood has opened an entire new world of creativity. The final product can contain several hundred pieces of wood, some very small and all cut to very precise angles. The pieces are glued into segments, either open or closed, or laminated to create a rough form of the final shape.
