Babs Kavanaugh's Profile

About

Toy making grabbed Babs Kavanaugh’s attention when she had the opportunity to apprentice with San Francisco puppeteer and illustrator, Wolo. Wolo’s sense of whimsy and playfulness led Babs to create a varied line of plush toys, puppets, animal hats and accessories.

Living in Bolinas CA, in the 1970’s, Babs launched a small business making and selling her designs at renaissance fairs across California. In 1985, Babs moved to Sonoma County, and was hired as a plush toy designer by Willitts Designs, a Petaluma Collectible Gift Company. Babs’ toys have been featured in Jean Laury’s book Handmade Toys and Games, and Sunset’s Book, Children’s Clothes and Toys.
