Jody Lee's Profile

About

Art, design and crafts; I love doing all of them! My home is littered with a half century of collected fabric, papers, costumes, paints, mats, clays, stamps, beads, bric a brac, shells, glass, glazes and of course, of my paintings and jewelry! My etsy shop represents my contemporary art and crafts inspired by a life by the water. My family and I love sailing, beaches, aquariums, fish and fishing, summer sun and tasty treats. I may work inland, but my "Studio" is always by the sea!

I have a Bachelor’s degree from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and have worked as a professional illustrator in the publishing industry for over 20 years, receiving numerous awards for my work. My fine art paintings, fantasy illustrations, and prints can be viewed at www.jodylee.org.

Oceana Beads

Oceana Beads are my lampwork beads inspired by the sea. I grew up on an island in San Francisco Bay, which was full of track homes and Victorian summer cottages, and I lived in one of the former that was a block away from the beach. The beach went through many incarnations and erosions and population changes, times when it was full of snaky little castings of sand worms and clam holes, or armies of purple black snails, and strange extinctions when it was a desert empty but for the gulls crying overhead. Sometimes there were pinching little crabs beneath the rocks, and leopard sharks and jellies when they washed ashore. Everyone in my family loves being on the water and the creatures in the water - my daughter wants to be a marine biologist and her room is engulfed with stuffed sharks – so creating glass beads that try to capture something of the beauty of the ocean and shoreline has been going on since my first classes in lampworking.

Toothsome Morsels

My best friend once received an elegant, hand calligraphed missive that addressed her as “Toothsome Morsel.” It seems a fitting title for my beads that are inspired by my sincere worship of sweets and good things to eat. The cupcakes, ice cream cones, donuts, petit-fours, chocolate chip cookies, slices of pie and fruits that I make out of glass are at least calorie free!
