Living in a downtown Tucson store front, My teenage nights were enchanted by rusted porcelain neon signs... Across the street sat the Manhattan Club, with her projecting neon sign pulling defenseless over endulgers to their certain decay..
I also couldn't resist the neon lullaby as I'd gaze from my loft and reshape those neon Manhattan letters into flowers, scrolls, firework bursts, and simple overpowered grids... What a medium! Light! Bendable light!
I had to give it a go.. I read everything i could find about this century old art, craft, & technology.. I lived design and expression, On 2 wheels or 2 feet, rolling with the clouds, I painted everything near my path....
So,, upon moving to creativity-heaven (San Francisco), I convinced a sign supplier to sell glass, electrodes, and transformers to me.

So,, upon moving to creativity-heaven (San Francisco), I convinced a sign supplier to sell glass, electrodes, and transformers to me.
I built crude fires from propane plumbers torches, I drilled rows of holes in copper pipe for a ribbon burner... Clueless about "bending" glass, I struggled for days to created 2 intertwined curving tubes. Pumped by a kind neon gal in Oakland, My first piece was created as a
wedding gift to my younger sister.... And so I began......
My first neon flower was made in October of 1991.... it was 5 feet tall,,,
Installed in a tree, at Mr. floppy rave in Alameda, Ca., it's support wire broke, sending it to the ground completely destroyed, on my birthday no less...
luckily, Eddy (BulletProof rave captain) and I were the only ones there so nobody was hurt.... However I was surely heartbroken.....
I've been actively making neon signs and sculpture since '99 in the heart of American Craft, the Appalachian Mountains.
