About

Have you ever had one of those moments where you are in a wonderful place or see a beautiful scene or object, and somehow, just in that moment, you are content to be a tiny part of a very big world?

Having travelled a great deal in Canada and the United States and having seen a few bits and pieces of the rest of the world, I’ve collected over 30 amazing panoramic images to date and I average about ten more finished creations each year (in addition to individual photographs). The images I have on Etsy are predominantly Canadian, coming from northern Saskatchewan, different parts of British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick.

I grew up in a home where relationships, art, and knowledge were the triad of life’s most important gifts and pursuits. A passion for art and entrepreneurial business led me to specialize in capturing elusive and temporary moments in artistic ways, armed with a camera and a computer. A wise and dear friend once called me a “collector of beauty in art and people,” a more apt description of who I am as a person and an artist then I could articulate myself. Undergoing a steeping of art history and practice in my Bachelor of Fine Art degree helped me to gain an understanding of my love for photography and sculpture. I also work in many other art forms including paper-cutting, wheel-thrown pottery, woodburning, and a plethora of other areas.

PHOTOGRAPHIC PANORAMAS
The simplest definition of a panorama is “an unbroken view of the entire surrounding area.” When translated to the medium of photography, this incorporates multiple photographs viewed together (either side by side, or knit like many of the photos I take and offer here) to recreate a more human view of a place, a vista, rather than just a small window.

It is difficult to pin down the date that I became interested in panoramic photography. I do know that it probably started with an attempt at capturing a grandiose prairie sunset sometime in 2007 or 2008.

Each of the panoramas you find here were taken freehand without a tripod, one photograph at a time. After this, they were digitally stitched together and edited to produce a photograph with the same visual feeling they gave me at the time. Production time for a finished digital panorama worked in this style ranges from 1-10 hours spread out over several days. Photographed panoramas create a natural curving warp in the image, and some of these images have been edited to minimize that warp to mimic our perception of the horizon.

OTHER ARTWORK
As of yet, I am still considering the ways in which I can use Etsy to share my work. Look for new pieces here on occasion.

I have always been interested in sharing my experiences with others through artistic media, and having my work here at Calories is a truly amazing opportunity to share with you.

Please feel free to inquire about custom prints and sizes for your home or business.
A full catalog of current panoramas and business cards is available on request.
