About

I live in Seattle with my 2 year old son, Theo.

PHOTOGRAPHY: I've had a camera in my hand or around my neck since I was about 8 years old. My first subject was my baby sister, who patiently, and (fortunately) cheerfully posed, allowing ridiculous adornments to be placed on her head or capes around her neck. Her agreeable manner and adorable smile made her the perfect subject for my budding new hobby.

I have since moved on from the cute baby phase, to a more difficult subject matter: birds and wildlife. Wild creatures, especially those with wings, are not as accommodating to an intruding lookey-loo, armed with a shiny contraption that may or may not impose immediate danger to them or their loved ones.

It's not always possible, on short notice, to establish a rapport with a heron, and make sure that she knows that I mean her no harm, and in fact, if she would just hold still for a few moments, may actually benefit
her cause by showing the world her grace and beauty.

Despite these inconveniences, I maintain my goal of only photographing my subjects in their natural habitats. Although this adds an extra challenge, it is worth the effort if the final product helps to instill a thought of compassion for the earth and its inhabitants. Of course, you will also find images of domesticated critters, which mostly consist of companion animals (pets) and rescued farm animals residing at various sanctuaries that I have visited. These are the ones that give me hope for humanity. My photographs are my life list of things I have seen and places I've been.

ENVIRONMENT: As a staunch environmentalist and anti-consumerist, I have made it a point to display my photography in a sustainable manner. Other than the photos themselves, which are professionally printed, everything is made and displayed with recycled or secondhand materials. I strongly support the handmade community, and am amazed at the number and quality of the craftiness going on throughout the world! As a part of that community I am continually looking for new (recycled) materials to work with and learning new techniques to enhance my own repertoire of skills.

ANIMAL RIGHTS: I have been vegetarian since 1992, and vegan since 1996. One of the main purposes of my photography and crafting is to benefit animals in some way, whether indirectly or directly. One of the direct ways that I'm helping animals is by donating a percentage of my sales to various animal rescue organizations with my "Spread the Love" donation program. Throughout my site you will see an icon on selected products labeled with the "Spread the Love" icon. The item description will specify which organization will be receiving the donations.
