Jonah Gibson's Profile

About

I was born in 1948 in Ohio, and grew up in an idyllic farming community where my father was a country veterinarian. That singular and formative village had one stoplight, six churches, six gas stations, six taverns, and all the philosophy I needed to focus a quirky lens on the larger world.

In general I prefer the sacred to the profane, but profanity to speech that has been sanitized of its full meaning. I prefer art to politics and politics to war, quiet to music and music to noise.

I'd rather drive than fly, but, these days, who wouldn't. I'd rather have red wine than white, scotch than bourbon, and martinis than almost anything else. I like my candy with nuts.

I believe fiction is often truer than reality, and art is more reasonable than philosophy. I think science confirms faith in ways only a poet could understand. I believe that, at a minimum, one should leave the world in a better state than one found it, and that while it's okay to fail at this, it's not okay not to try.

One way or another all these things inform my creative inclinations. I came late to the world of photography and graphical imaging. I spent most of my working life in accounting and finance where a bit too much creativity can land you in jail. I gave that life up to embrace a freer, truer self that loves to tinker with processes and change the camera's visual reality into something more elemental and beautiful.

Hopefully, you will agree.
