About

My affinity for arts and crafts comes from growing up in a crafty family. My mom, aunts, great aunts and both grandmas are great artists. Each one is gifted with their own type of art. My Grandma Cates taught me to sew when I was a young girl. I started my first quilt when I was 13 years old. It was not even close to being done right, but it started a love of textiles in me that I have just begun to explore.

My second love is books! I love books, my mom got me my first library card when I was 3 years old and I have been obsessed with the magic of stories ever since.

In addition to being a wife and mom I am studying to get my Masters in English Literature. My concentration is British Literature from the fifteenth to nineteenth century. Recently, I presented a paper at a Shakespeare Symposium. In addition to the paper I also presented a…

In addition to the paper I also presented a quilt I made that is a visual representation of the topic of my paper. I really loved the project, and I started to think maybe I could combine my two loves and share whatever I produce.

I have no idea what will come of this endeavor, but what is life if not a happy journey. So I hope all of you find some type of joy in my work. If I can make you smile I have succeeded in some small way.

Each piece is inspired by one of my favorite stories. It can be as simple as a quilt inspired by the colors of my favorite heroin's dress or as elaborate as an entire character study of my favorite fairy tale. I try to use a variety of naturally derived textiles and I try to use recycled material whenever possible.

Happy Travels!
