Alis Jordan's Profile

About

I became an artist one Christmas Day, at the age of 12. That day I received my first real oil painting kit from my parents. I joyfully set up my painting studio in the basement of our home in Enfield, Connecticut and my career as an artist began. It was then, that I changed my name to Alis from Alice, and signed all my artwork and still do, with that signature. I look back on that and think how amazing my parents were to allow me my individuality and let me do it way before it was common to change the spelling of one's name.

I graduated from Connecticut’s Paier College of Art, where I majored in Fine Art and Children’s book illustration. Four years of intensive training in the old school methods of painting and drawing gave me a very solid foundation for my career in art.

Over the years, I have worked as an Art Director, Illustrator, Advertising Director,…

Over the years, I have worked as an Art Director, Illustrator, Advertising Director, Freelance graphic artist, actor and model. I love learning new skills and continually growing and developing as an artist and human being. Each new path takes on exciting challenges…and the need for more tools! (Yes, I am a tool junkie and I think my husband married me for my tool collection.)

In recent years, I have worked in clay and became accomplished as a potter. I started doing figurative sculptures and that became my stepping stone into metal. I started with a simple jewelry class and discovered my love of pounding, hammering and manipulating metal to create one-of-a kind art jewelry. I secretly long to become a blacksmith. I love creating textures and working a hard flat surface into an interesting object of art. I love the mistakes that change the direction of a piece and make it even better.

I mainly work in silver, copper and brass and depending on the piece will incorporate gold and precious and semi-precious stones and pearls to bring in interesting shapes and colors. I also create modern hand-knotted pearl necklaces that are just dreamy. Every woman needs a few strands of pearls. They make a woman glow.
