Allison Weeks Thomas' Profile

About

Art and creative writing have long been passions of the Eastern North Carolina native who recently declared the NC mountains as home, Allison Weeks Thomas. As a child, she envisioned her future career as a writer and illustrator of books living in the Big Apple.

That was until she realized that the Big Apple was not a shiny red fruit inhabited by a bespectacled, fedora wearing green inch worm with a waist coat. NYC is however, a place in which she hopes to finally visit this fall.

While her choice of the ideal location changed, Allison’s love for the creative did not. She attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where, after nearly a decade, she earned her BA in Studio Art in 2004.

After managing a small beach market, taking real estate photography, and slinging salads at an eatery, Allison realized that she needed more schooling. So she packed up her husband, her two dogs, and her pen and inks, and headed to the deeper and dirtier south, where she earned her MA in Illustration Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2009.

Now as a mom to two year old London, Allison is trying to balance her overwhelming love for her daughter with her passion for pen and inks and watercolor, acrylic painting and most recently collage work and clay. She still longs to be an illustrator and writer of children’s books, and has been most inspired by her daughter.

Allison currently resides in Savannah, GA.
