About

I have a huge passion for old things. I have been around collectors of antiques my entire life. My parents, my grandparents, and my great grandparents were collectors. My great grandmother collected early American furniture and lace. My grandmother collected milk glass, bottles, fabric, blue willow china, and well just about everything. She lived in the beautiful North Carolina Appalachian Mountains. Many days of my childhood were spent riding in the back of her car all through those beautiful mountains looking for that next hidden treasure. It was quite exciting, even though those back woods roads made me very car sick. She was the ultimate picker. You could point out a pile of wood and she would go and pull out an unscathed glass vase from the early 1900's. At least that is how I remember it. I have been collecting since I was a small child. I bought my first piece at an auction when I was 6, a made in Japan figurine of two men sitting on a bench having a pint. (see my profile picture). Not sure why I chose that exactly, but it was unique and I had learned by example, if you see something unique, buy it. Now I take my daughter Madeline. Luckily, she has inherited the family tradition. She is very proud of her little snow globe collection.

I named my shop andie amour because it best describes how I feel about old things....I love them....andie is actually my nickname, my birth name is Andrea.

Inheriting my great grandmother's lace collection gave me an early start to my passion for fabrics and textiles. I started sewing doll clothes at 8 years old when my mother taught me how to turn the sewing machine on. Now I design and sew wedding gowns. I have another etsy shop where I sell my gowns: http://www.etsy.com/shop/andiemcguire
